DXSpider Announce Mailing List

Introduction to the DXSpider Announce mailing list

The DXSpider Announce mailing list is a low volume list designed to alert people to new versions of the DXSpider Linux DX Cluster software. There may be other related announcements as well (important Bug reports, security alerts etc).

What is the mailing list?

The mailing list is a discussion forum implemented by electronic mail though which people subscribed to the list can receive copies of messages addressed to the list. The mailing list is run automatically by the 'mailman' list server software which accepts requests for admisistrative functions (subscribe, unsubscribe, etc.) as well as re-delivering copies of messages submitted to the list itself.

Subscribing to and resigning from the Cluster Tech mailing list

You can send commands to the mailman software to join (subscribe) or resign (unsubscribe) from the list as follows:

Subscribing to the list

Send an email from your normal email account as follows:

        To: dxspider-announce-request@dxcluster.org
        Subject: subscribe

        Body of message:

        subscribe dxspider-announce

You can do this automatically by clicking the link and then pressing "send" in your mail client.

Majordomo will send you back confirmation and require you to return an authentication number to complete the subscribtion - this is done to prevent misuse of the email system.

Unsubscribing from the list

Send an email from your normal email account as follows:

        To: dxspider-announce-request@dxcluster.org
        Subject: unsubscribe

        Body of message:

        unsubscribe dxspider-announce

You can do this automatically by clicking the link and then pressing "send" in your mail client.

Sending articles to the mailing list

To send a message to list (and hence the subscribers and the list archive) address your email as follows:

       To: dxspider-announce@dxcluster.org
Subject: something relevant goes here (you decide)

Please note that it is preferrable to conduct discussions in "plain text" rather than in mime attachments

Mailing list archive

All posts to the mailing list are copied to a list archive. The archive is accessible as standard web pages over the internet. The archive indexes messages in both date order and "thread" order.
